These are the things that I take no matter where, when, why or for how long I am going.

Osprey Sojourn 28” / 80L Backpack
For longer trips I use the Sojourn as it gives me the best of both worlds by letting me wheel it with incorporated chassis and carry it via the built in removable harness. Lets face it most of the time we will be wheeling the pack around and with the "Highroad" high clearance wheels this little baby can go more places than your average wheeled luggage. The other times when you needs to carry it there is a adjustable harness which also zips away when not in use or can be removed completely. There a number of compartments in the pack where you can store things so you are not digging through the whole thing looking for stuff. It also has strips for holding down the contents so it is less likely to move while on the go. In Australia the RRP is $349.95. |
Osprey Farpoint 70 Backpack
On shorter trips I take the Farpoint which is a 70 liter pack but in reality the main pack has 55 liters and the daypack which attaches to the front has a 15 liter capacity. The main pack is just small enough to be used as carry on which is great when you don;t want to wait for your luggage when you arrive. In Australia the RRP is $249.95 |
I have been using the Lonely Planet guide books since my first trip to Bali in 1989 and at times I could not have survived without them they give you all the info that you need. I also found that the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree Forum is a great place to get information of other travelers who are on the ground and have up to date information. Above a couple links to discount Lonely Plant books.
